Our Customer is one of the leading online marketplaces for pet products in the United States. Founded in 2011, the company is widely recognized for its customer-centric approach, extensive product catalog, and technology-driven shopping experience for pet owners. Chewy serves millions of customers by providing food, healthcare products, accessories, and services for pets while continuously investing in scalable digital commerce solutions and innovative customer engagement platforms.

Project

The project focuses on developing a customer-facing platform for a large-scale pet products marketplace. The team is building high-performance, highly available, and scalable distributed systems designed to enhance customer engagement and optimize the online shopping experience for pet owners. The platform leverages modern cloud-native technologies, event-driven architecture, and robust backend services to support large-scale traffic and operational reliability.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience with Kafka or other event streaming solutions
  • Familiarity with AWS and EKS
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and related tools
  • Hands-on experience designing and deploying scalable, highly available distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architectures
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • English level: Advanced (C1) or higher

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement large-scale distributed systems capable of handling substantial data volumes
  • Build scalable, fault-tolerant, and low-latency backend services
  • Architect and implement APIs and event-driven solutions
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues across services and infrastructure layers
  • Develop and execute unit, API, regression, and performance tests
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure rapid incident resolution and system reliability
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to engineering best practices
  • Optimize system scalability, availability, and operational performance
  • Support continuous improvement of CI/CD and deployment processes
